Based in North Carolina, Techsplorers is an outgrowth of the Burroughs-Wellcome funded Techtronics program of the Duke University Pratt School of Engineering and was founded by an Electrical Engineer and educator with over 20 years of industry experience. Our proven curriculum provides kids ages 7-18 with exciting hands-on activities designed to stimulate their interest in technology, and our camps are conveniently located at multiple locations throughout Raleigh, Durham, Cary, and Chapel Hill with additional locations opening in Charlotte.
Students participate in engaging activities, build cool high-tech projects, and are mentored by exceptionally talented engineering students from NC State and Duke University. Although there are many science summer camps in the Triangle and Charlotte areas, no other enrichment programs offer real, high-tech, hands-on exposure like this! Our lead instructors are experienced and passionate educators who know how to inspire students and show them how fun STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) can be.
There are many reasons why Techsplorers is not like any other STEM class or camp you may have encountered, but the first and most obvious is our incredibly low student-instructor ratio. Forget having one teacher for 30 students, we guarantee at least a 7:1 ratio in all of our classes, if not even lower. All of this, of course, means highly personalized instruction and plenty of one-on-one time with our amazing instructors. If you need extra help, we are there for you!
No snap circuits and no mass-produced kits — this is the real deal. Our classes were created by engineers for engineers.
In our electronics classes you will work with and learn how to use the exact same components and equipment used by actual Electrical Engineers. You will build all of your projects from scratch and we will teach you exactly how they work so that you can modify the design, make it your own, and invent entirely new circuits. In our aerospace class you will learn about all of the different factors that go into airplane design and build the exact same gliders as the Aerospace students at NC State. And in our engines class you will get to take apart a real engine and learn not only how it works but how each part was designed.
With the intense focus on testing proficiency in school and the multitude of distractions outside of school, kids these days rarely get the chance to just tinker, build, and experiment. At Techsplorers, we believe that practical experience and hands-on exploration in a positive learning environment are not only invaluable on their own, but can lead to profound changes in motivation, development of critical thinking skills, and even changes in how knowledge is stored in the brain.
Our lead instructors are all passionate, talented educators, hand-selected not only for their knowledge and commitment to learning, but also for their outstanding character. All lead instructors start as an assistant first, training with an experienced lead, to ensure their mastery of the technically advanced material covered in upper-level Techsplorers courses. Our assistant instructors are also top notch, high-GPA engineering and education students who have been carefully screened and selected for their dedication to academic excellence and desire to share their passion for STEM with the younger generation.
At Techsplorers, we care about you and your future. For those who are truly interested in pursuing a career in engineering, we will be there with you every step of the way. Even after students have graduated from our classes, we encourage them to stay in touch and we are always happy to offer help and advice on your journey into the wonderful world of engineering. Our founder and CEO, Rodger Dalton, has personally mentored dozens of Techsplorers and college engineering students over the years and is never more proud than when they finally land their dream job.
